West Coast Maple: Eukula Oil
Species: West Coast Maple
Width: 3 1/4 inch
Finish: Eukula Oil
We took a Flooring vacation up to the gorgeous town of Powell River to visit with some friends and do what we do best: finish hardwood floors. While working up there, it was evident that West Coast Maple is the most popular floor in this region. West Coast Maple is much different from the Maple generally found in the lower mainland. Common Maple is generally harvested on the East coast of North America. West Coast Maple is slightly softer than East Coast Maple, and it has a dazzlingly wild grain structure known as “figured Maple” that looks almost 3 dimensional. On this particular floor we went with a European, low VOC, penetrating oil finish because it is relatively transparent when compared to standard penetrating oils. The result was nothing less than spectacular. We look forward to returning to Powell River to continue working on this gorgeous wood!
