This project is one of Raincoast Floors Ltd. favorite Heritage Restoration projects! This particular floor was a 1400 square foot studio built almost 100 years ago. Over its history, this room has been renovated many times by it multiple owners to include multiple rooms that helped it function as a boarding house. Our job was to bring the floor back its original grandeur.
When we arrived on the job site , whole sections of the Fir Flooring was missing. It was our job to do extensive repairs and blend it all into one seamless floor. Normally, when substantial sections of flooring are missing we may elect to dig up the whole floor, reclaim the wood, then reinstall the floor with era matched wood mixed in. However, the size of this particular room made this option very cost prohibitive.
We eventually got to work and “stitched” in a 30 foot splice along the section shown in the picture below and made several other patch repairs. After many weeks of repairs, sanding, and finishing with a blend of penetrating oil and liquid wax: we are proud to say that the floor may now be even more beautiful than it was when it was originally installed over 100 years ago.
